Fasting doesn’t change God’s heart — it changes ours.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. James 4:8

About
As we approach our Devoted Conference, we are setting time aside as a church to fast, pray, and seek God together. This is more than just a spiritual routine—it's a posture of the heart. We are choosing to devote ourselves afresh—just as the early Church did—to His Word, His Church, and to one another (Acts 2:42).
Fasting is a way we quiet the noise, tune in to God’s voice, and surrender distractions so we can hear Him clearly. It is an invitation to go deeper. Let’s believe that as we humble ourselves in this sacred space, God will move powerfully in our hearts—bringing fresh vision, renewed passion, and personal breakthrough in the very areas we’ve been seeking Him on.
So let’s come with expectation. Let’s hunger for Him more than anything else. Let’s be devoted.
Focused Prayer Points
-
Day 1: Devoted to Jesus – Abide in the Vine
Scripture:“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5
Devotional Thought:
Before we can be devoted to anything else—church, mission, or people—we must first be devoted to Jesus. The early believers didn’t follow a movement; they followed a Man, Jesus Christ. Everything flowed from their abiding relationship with Him. Devotion begins not with action, but with intimacy.
Reflection Questions:
What does it look like for me to “remain” in Jesus daily?
Are there areas of my life where I’ve drifted from dependence on Him?
Prayer Prompt:
Jesus, I choose to abide in You. Help me surrender my independence and stay connected to You in every season. -
Day 2: Devoted to the Word – Anchored in Truth
Scripture: 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. – 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Devotional Thought:
The early Church didn’t follow opinions or trends. They were shaped by the apostles’ teaching—the living Word of God. In a culture of shifting truth, we must be people anchored in the eternal Word. Reading Scripture isn’t just a task—it’s our lifeline to God's voice and truth.Reflection Questions:
Do I treat God's Word as optional or essential?
How has the Bible shaped me recently?
Prayer Prompt:
God, stir up a hunger in me for Your Word. Let it cut through lies and bring light, correction, and life. -
Day 3: Devoted to Fellowship – Committed to One Another
Scripture: “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” – Ephesians 4:1-3 (NIV)
Devotional Thought:
Fellowship isn’t just hanging out—it’s a heart-deep connection. The Church wasn’t a crowd; it was a family. They shared life, burdens, meals, and mission. In a disconnected world, the call to community is more radical than ever. Devotion to fellowship means showing up and opening up.Reflection Questions:
Who am I intentionally walking with in faith?
Am I isolating myself or making room for others?
Prayer Prompt:
Father, thank You for placing me in Your family. Help me build authentic, Christ-centred relationships that reflect Your love. -
Day 4: Devoted to the Mission – Go and Make Disciples
Scripture:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
Devotional Thought:
The Church in Acts wasn’t inward-focused—they were on mission. Their devotion led to action. Being devoted means we don’t just gather—we go. We share Jesus in word and deed, with boldness and compassion, wherever we are. The Gospel doesn’t spread through convenience, but through conviction.Reflection Questions:
Who in my world needs to experience the love of Jesus?
What is holding me back from living on mission?
Prayer Prompt:
God, give me eyes to see the harvest. Use my life to bring your good news to people around me—one person, one step at a time. -
Day 5: Devoted to His Presence – Dwell in the house of the Lord
Scripture: One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. – Psalm 27:4
Devotional Thought:
The early Church was marked by power, but even more by presence. They waited, they worshipped, and they were filled. Everything they did flowed from the presence of God. Our deepest devotion is not to programs or outcomes—but to the person of Jesus and His nearness.Reflection Questions:
Am I pursuing God’s presence or just His benefits?
How can I create space to dwell with Him this week?
Prayer Prompt:
Jesus, be my first pursuit. Fill every space of my heart with Your glory and draw me into deeper communion with You.
Getting a Breakthrough
Here is a great teaching from Ps Allan Meyer on what prayer & fasting is and the power prayer & fasting can hold in your life.
What is Fasting?
Fasting is when you give up food for a certain amount of time. When we remove or reduce our food intake, it weakens our bodies, forcing us to become closer to God and rely on His strength more than our own.
Fasting is not required for salvation, and there’s no pressure! But, it is something that Jesus did (He didn’t eat for 40 days at one time) and instructed his disciples to do. Check out Matthew 4:1-11 and Matthew 6:16-18 to see more about Jesus’ heart for fasting.
Why Do We Fast?
The power of fasting comes when we combine it with prayer and the faith to believe that God will come through. So what are you praying for this fast? Set your goals and be expectant. Let the desire of what you’re believing for be greater than your desire for food. But more than these things, let’s desire for greater intimacy with Jesus.
How Do You Fast?
-
Decide what you are going to fast, then prepare physically, mentally, and practically. Plan your schedule to include more time with God, and plan to change your diet in the lead-up to allow your body time to adjust.
Make sure to check with your doctor if you have any pre-existing conditions that may affect your ability to fast. -
Fasting does not change God, it changes us! The promise is as we draw near to God, He will draw near to us. This fast is about greater intimacy with God and to know Him better.
As you fast you may also feel to pray for breakthrough for your family, in your career, greater financial provision, or something else. Be clear and define your objectives before you fast.
-
It's hard to hear from God and grow in your intimacy with Him if your heart is not right. The two key areas to look at here are unconfessed sins and offense. It's important to get these areas in your heart right before fasting!
-
It may seem obvious, but if you're just fasting and not praying, it's simply a hunger strike! Fasting is all about becoming more intimate with God. As you fast, pray and intentionally spend time with God, asking Him to speak to you!

What Does a Fast Look Like?
The biblical model for fasting means giving up food—either completely or in part. You can also fast from distractions like social media and technology. Although these are not in the Bible, it does make sense to fast from things that distract you in your relationship with God. However, we’d encourage you to also fast from food—this is the best way to notice your physical weakness and begin to rely on God’s strength.
One Meal
Just eat one meal a day!
-
Skip breakfast and lunch, then eat dinner, or something similar. As you go about your day, you'll be hungry and reminded to rely on God. (Disclaimer: this doesn't mean you eat three meals' worth of food in your one meal!)

If you’re pregnant or nursing, your health—and the health of your baby—is the priority. Traditional food fasting may not be suitable during this season, and that's okay! There are still meaningful and powerful ways to participate in fasting week.
Consider fasting from non-essential things that consume your time or attention—like social media, streaming services, shopping, or sugar. These can be beautiful ways to create space for God in your heart and home while still caring for your body and baby.
Remember, fasting is about focus, not just food. It’s about setting time aside to draw closer to God and seek His presence. So whatever you choose to fast—do it with purpose, and know that your devotion matters deeply.
We’re believing that God will meet you right where you are in this precious season.

Choosing to fast—even while facing health challenges—can be a powerful step of faith. But it's important to use wisdom. We encourage you to consult with your doctor before making any significant changes to your diet, especially if you have existing health conditions. Everyone’s body is different, and your doctor can provide guidance tailored to you.
Remember, fasting isn’t only about food. You can still participate meaningfully in our fasting week by cutting back on social media, entertainment, sweets, or junk food. The key is to remove distractions and make space for God.
Once you’ve prayerfully decided what to fast—commit to it! We’re believing that as you seek Him, God will move powerfully in your heart and life.
